Login and Dashboard

Accessing an institution's LearningSpace URL opens the LearningSpace login screen.

Email login

Users can log in with their email address or switch to Legacy login.

Once users have successfully logged in with a password created by the Admin or User manager during User account setupthey can change their password by going to User Account Settings.

Password Change

You have to enter the new password twice and then hit submit.

IMPORTANT: A strong password is required. See strong password requirements here.

The new password will not be accepted if:

  • One or more inputs are empty

  • The two passwords do not match

  • The password does not meet the strong password requirement.

IMPORTANT: When a device is added as an Additional station, the Login window will, depending on the settings, contain a Get Today's Activities or a Get Placard link.
See details at How to Configure Stations and How to Set Up the Get Placard Function.

The Active LearningSpace Station script is displayed in the Login window when a device is added as a station.

Upon continuing the login, LearningSpace directs users to their Dashboard, which displays the modules accessible to them based on their privileges.

Legacy Login

With Legacy login, users need to choose the type of user account they have—learner, SP, or Faculty—and either type their name or select it from the drop-down menu.

Card-based login

Users can log in to the system on any Hallway station by swiping/scanning their ID Card if the following conditions are met:

  1. The 'Enable card-based login for Hallways station' option is turned on in the System Manager (General tab).

  2. The computer used for login is added to the system as a Hallway station (System manager, Stations tab).

  3. A barcode/QR Code reader device is connected to the computer. (See Recommended Barcode and QR Code Scanners).

  4. Users wishing to log in must have an active LearningSpace account, a Card ID registered in User Manager (Edit user), and an ID card that contains the Card ID registered in the system for the respective user.

Once set up this way,  the “Use your card to login” option will be available on the login page, and users can log in to the system by scanning/swiping their cards.

To use card login, neither the username nor the password input field should be selected, and nothing should be entered into either field.

SSO Login

SAML-based Single Sign-On (SSO) is supported in LearningSpace.

Once SAML SSO is enabled, a LearningSpace user cannot log into LS via the LS login page. When the user enters the LearningSpace URL, the Shibboleth SP (running on the main application server) will redirect them to the Identity Provider (IdP) login page.

For more information, visit the SAML-based Single Sign-On (SSO) Authentication page.

Login Issues

Unknown User / Incorrect Password

When trying to log in with an unknown user account (not registered or inactive in your LS system) or with an incorrect password, you will see the following warning message:

Contact your LS system administrator for assistance or use the “Forgot your password?” option.

Forgotten Password

In case of a forgotten password, use the ‘Forgot your password?’ option below the Login field.

If the username or email you entered is correct (i.e., registered within the system), you will receive further instructions via email.

“LS forgot password request, if this was not you please ignore. If you want to change your current password please click the link below. Note: the link is only available until <date> and can be only used once!”

Otherwise, you should contact your LS administrator.

A LearningSpace user will NOT receive the forgot password email if:

  • No user is found by the UCID or email address in the given LS system

  • Multiple users are found by the UCID or email address with the same email address

  • User is found by their UCID, but has no email address

Forgot Password Email

If your email address has been identified within the system, you will receive a forgot password email (if LDAP authentication is not enabled for your account. See How to Configure LDAP Login )

Forgot password email:

  • The mail contains a change password URL

  • Clicking the URL will open a new page where the given user is logged in

  • The URL is only active for 24 hours

  • The URL can be used exactly once

  • Only the latest password reset URL will work

NOTE: Trying to use the generated auth to open any other page results in a Permission denied error

How to change a password?

You have to enter the same password twice and then hit submit.

IMPORTANT: A strong password is required.
Strong password requirements:
Your new password has to be at least 8-characters long and needs to contain at least one of each of the following character types:

  • Upper case letters (A-Z)

  • Lowercase letters (a-z)

  • Digits (0-9)

  • Special characters (e.g. ! @ # $ % & * etc.)

Error message appears when:

  • One or more inputs are empty

  • The two passwords do not match

  • The password does not meet the strong password requirement.

Computer Blocked

The computer will be temporarily blocked if the password is entered incorrectly 3 times.

Once redirected to the login page, repeated login attempts can be started after 15 minutes.

Turn to your LS system administrators for assistance: they can either log in to the affected computer and disable the blocking or help reset the LearningSpace password.
