# Smartphone Scanner Application

Use your smartphone as a **barcode or QR code** scanner to check in and search for items in the [**Inventory**](/doc/inventory-manager-vOW2yRV1Eg) manager.

The following section will walk you through the steps of

* setting up the **desktop client**,
* setting up the **smartphone application**
* solving **connection problems**
* **license activation**

When you first use your smartphone as a scanner, you need to decide whether to use QR codes or barcodes for identification in the future.  
For QR codes, the devices must function correctly if an #LS Prefix is set (for the 'Barcode to PC scanning application').
