# Scan Barcodes and QR Codes in the Inventory Module After successfully [**pairing your smartphone**](/doc/connect-your-smartphone-ISPC75vlPc) with the [**Barcode to PC desktop client**](/doc/download-barcode-to-pc-to-your-desktop-LDtzlESeW7): 1. Enter the **Inventory** module and access the feature where you want to apply **barcode or QR code** scanning. :::info Scroll down to **Inventory Features** for more details. ::: :::warning Upon first using your smartphone as a scanner, you need to decide whether to use QR codes or barcodes for identification in the future. In the case of QR codes, an **#LS Prefix** must be set (for the *'Barcode to PC scanning application'* ) for the devices to function correctly. See [How to Set up the #LS Prefix for your Scanner](/doc/how-to-set-up-the-ls-prefix-for-your-scanner-IfD0a8FcV3). ::: :::warning ***Important: Keyboard Settings*** Ensure your [**keyboard layout**](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/258824/how-to-change-your-keyboard-layout) is set to US English. Otherwise, QR code and barcode scanning will not work properly inside the module. ::: 2. Place the flashing scanning strip on a barcode or QR code. 6.
