# ◾ How to Set up the #LS Prefix for your Scanner

The **Inventory Manager** identifies all QR/Bar codes by the #LS prefix. First, the QR/Bar code reader should be configured to add this prefix when reading a QR/Bar code.

This prefix configuration is needed for Inventory 2.6 and up to support [**QR-code and barcode scanning**](/doc/how-to-detect-items-in-your-inventory-iTFSyYssZs).

\#LS prefix for the Barcode to PC scanning application MUST be set for the devices to function correctly.

Important: Keyboard Settings

Ensure your **keyboard layout** is set to US English; otherwise, QR code and barcode scanning will not work properly inside the [**Inventory**](/doc/inventory-manager-vOW2yRV1Eg) module.

* **Desktop application**: search *Barcode to PC Server*
* **Mobile application**: search *Barcode to PC Server* in Google Play or App Store


 1. Start the desktop application.
 2. Go to settings.

 3. Scroll to Output Settings.

 4. Select the Static Text label and drag it to the Output Template field.

 5. Click on the Static Text label to edit it.
 6. Enter #LS.

 7. Click Save :white_check_mark: in the popup to save your changes.
 8. The popup will close.
 9. Select the Barcode label and drag it to the Output Template field.
10. Select the Enter label and drag it to the Output Template field.

11. Click on Save & Apply in the top right corner.
