## Defining a Textual Evaluation

1. Navigate to the **Educational** **Prescription** **Template** **Authoring** screen for the desired activity.

   **The left panel contains a __list of entries__ (components) that are linked to text fields in the right panel**.
   **The list of your cases, their sections, and the skill areas on the left side of the screen** is **populated automatically by LearningSpace**.

   The list of entries includes:
   * Introduction
   * Names of all Cases and Sections used in the Event
   * Assessment/Prescription
   * Summary
2. Select a component (**Case** and/ or **Section**) from the left panel. Click an entry in the list to open the corresponding text field in the panel on the right.

:::warning
If evaluation text has been defined for the component, the text displays in the text box on the right side of the screen. Components include cases and sections for the selected activity.

:::

3\. Enter information or modify existing entries in the text box.

 ![](https://outline-production-attachments.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/uploads/6c0da235-ff99-49fd-81af-d32f613692dd/f465302c-1955-4684-9a3c-f395d17c154b/76909017.png?X-Amz-Algorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-Amz-Content-Sha256=UNSIGNED-PAYLOAD&X-Amz-Credential=AKIA4EOUDTOVUICLPZ4P%2F20260909%2Fus-east-1%2Fs3%2Faws4_request&X-Amz-Date=20260909T120000Z&X-Amz-Expires=86400&X-Amz-Signature=a118618a632d4265bfdd4f93a0842436de757db6fd9e389d5c4ca213de73154f&X-Amz-SignedHeaders=host&x-amz-checksum-mode=ENABLED&x-id=GetObject " =627x511")

:::info
* The text entered for the ***Introduction*** can serve as an introduction to the report.
* Below the Introduction, you will see the ***Cases*** of the Activity in alphabetical order.
* Within the tables, you find the ***Sections*** of the case.
* The items under ***Assessment/Prescription*** are the sections of all the Activities' cases. These serve to evaluate skill areas (History, Communication, etc. throughout the entire Activity—if the same Section title is included in several Cases, an overview will be calculated here). ***Prescriptions*** are pulled from a library of ***reusable prescription texts*** created in System: Auto-texts.
* ***The Summary*** item can serve as a summary in the report.

:::tip
Use [**Merge tags**](/doc/field-merge-tags-for-e-p-template-authoring-OV3Ppv5zPV) and **Auto-texts**, as desired, to facilitate the *production* and *dissemination* of many evaluations.

:::

4\. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each component that requires content or modifications.

5\. Select **Save** to apply text.

## Using Merge Tags

Users can enter merge tags within the textual evaluation to **personalize the data** for the specific learner.
The merge tags **pull in data from the Activity** (such as *Learner name, Activity name*, etc.) to be displayed in the report when it is opened.

:::info
Merge tags need to be put in braces, and **hashmarks** need to be used before and after them in #{...}# format (for example, #{TITLE}#)).

:::

:::tip
To view the list of the Educational Prescription Template merge tags, see [**Field Merge Tags for E. P. Template Authoring**](/doc/e142244d-2e6a-4b7d-b2aa-dab801c490ae).

:::

For example, the #{CORRECT}# merge tag tells the learner if he/she answered a specific item correctly or incorrectly.

To set up the #{CORRECT}# merge tag:

1. Access the **Educational Prescription Template Authoring** screen.
2. Select the desired component and enter **#{CORRECT_}#** in the text box.
3. Identify the short identifier for the case in which the item belongs. If no short identifier is provided or known, type the case name with quotation marks followed by an underscore.

For example: **#{CORRECT_JSM_}#** or **#{CORRECT_"JOHN SMITH"_}#**

:::warning
***NOTE:*** The case name or short identifier can be found on the [**Details** **tab**](/doc/details-tab-7Pa5UaN5Cx) of the [**Edit Case pop-up window**](/doc/edit-case-pop-up-window-lELJtQZvSg) of the **Case Manager**.

:::

4\. Enter the part identifier for the part to which the item belongs.

These identifiers include PREL, SP, POSTL, FON, and CE (part identifiers are case-sensitive).

For example: **#{CORRECT_JSM_PREL_}#**

5\. Enter the item number.

For example: **#{CORRECT_JSM_PREL_3_}#**

6\. Enter the option elements for this answer (e.g., were, were not, n/a).
Depending on the learner's answer, one of these options is displayed in the text.

E.g., The email may contain a merged sentence such as "You **#{CORRECT_JSM_POSTL_3_were_were not}#** able to identify the diagnosis correctly."

:::tip
See another **example** for setting up the #{CORRECT}# merge tag [**here**.](/doc/field-merge-tags-for-e-p-template-authoring-OV3Ppv5zPV)

:::

:::warning
***IMPORTANT!*** Remember to **properly structure sentence syntax properly** when introducing merge tags.

:::

## Using Auto-texts

The [**Auto-texts**](/doc/auto-texts-QW2fy4CEtE) feature allows users to **create content** to populate multiple educational prescriptions and **use consistent language to create** all **Educational Prescription reports** within one Activity.

1. On the **Educational Prescription Template Authoring** screen, select the **Auto-Texts** button.
   The **Auto-text** tab of [System Management](/doc/system-manager-ar9EDnlVcL) appears. The list of available **Auto-Texts** is on the left, and each auto-text receives a number that can be used in a formula (see below).

   ![](https://outline-production-attachments.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/uploads/6c0da235-ff99-49fd-81af-d32f613692dd/3f4ecaee-7005-4e24-b41d-c1b2b15038e9/76909020.png?X-Amz-Algorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-Amz-Content-Sha256=UNSIGNED-PAYLOAD&X-Amz-Credential=AKIA4EOUDTOVUICLPZ4P%2F20260909%2Fus-east-1%2Fs3%2Faws4_request&X-Amz-Date=20260909T120000Z&X-Amz-Expires=86400&X-Amz-Signature=c37235cf823c0e8e32435377625cb49a940aff2e925905c1e7a7b1e4af0cc729&X-Amz-SignedHeaders=host&x-amz-checksum-mode=ENABLED&x-id=GetObject)

   1. Use the sorting headers to establish order and the checkboxes to select the desired auto-text or the **Add** button to create a new one.
   2. To update an Auto-text, click the text or the diagnosis and it becomes editable.
   3. To create a new Auto-text, click the **Add** button, type the name/ title in the editable field, and press **Enter**.
   4. To apply an Auto-Text, set up the parameters using the Auto Text merge tag in the Educational Prescription Template.
2. Note the number of the Auto Text(s) you want to use.
3. Return to the Educational Prescription Template.
4. For example, ***Auto Text 4*** is a Communication Tip. **You’d like that tip displayed when the *Section Score* is less than the *Class Section Average* by 8%.** (i.e., LearningSpace should insert auto-text number 4. Thus, this text is what the learners will see in their EP Report)

**Example:** An Auto Text merge tag is created using the {AT tag. The parameters for when the Auto Text will be used are set up using other merge tags; the formula below indicates when the section score (S_SCORE) is less than the class section average (S_AVG) by 8% (- 7.5%), then Auto Text 4 appears (! 4) in the Educational Prescription.

{AT S_SCORE < S_AVG - 7.5% ! 4}

Here are the corresponding Educational Prescription Template merge tags:

* Auto Text = AT
* Section Score = S_Score
* Class Section Average = S_AVG
* Auto Text ID = !4 **The auto text ID is identified with an exclamation point: !**

The complete Auto Text merge tag is **#{AT S_SCORE < S_AVG – 7.99% ! 4}#**

:::warning
***IMPORTANT!*** Always click the **Save** button near the bottom of the screen to apply any updates or changes to the **Educational Prescription Template**.

:::

## How to add an Auto Text to the Educational Prescription Template

An **Auto Text merge tag** is created by **combining the #{AT}# tag with other Educational Prescription merge tags.**

You will need:

* The Auto Text merge tag **#{AT}#**
* An Educational Prescription Template merge tag
* The Auto Text ID number

**An auto-text is pulled into the Educational Prescription Report with a statement:**

**#{AT merge tag operator merge tag ! autotext}#**

**Example:**                    #{AT S_SCORE < E_SCORE ! 4}#

**Logical switches AND and OR can be used for further refinements:**  **#{AT E_SCORE > 74.5% OR <90% ! 7}#**

***Example 2:***  #{AT E_SCORE > 74.5% AND E_SCORE< 90% ! 7}#

or:              #{AT E_SCORE > 74.5% AND E_SCORE< 89% ! 7}#

***“Overall Score.  You received a score of __%.  Based on this score.*** *- (75-90%) You performed satisfactorily in the encounter. Please review your performance on the individual sections to see the areas where you need the most improvement. We recommend you consider scheduling SDP time to work on these skills.”*

# Validation

The **Validate** feature validates that the merge and HTML tags used in the Educational Prescription Template have been constructed correctly.

## How to validate the Educational Prescription Template

1. Click the **Validate** button at the bottom of the screen.
2. If your templates are correct, you will receive a **"Validate successful"** message in a green highlight at the top of your page.

   ![](https://outline-production-attachments.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/uploads/6c0da235-ff99-49fd-81af-d32f613692dd/a980326a-3931-4f9b-aa3c-78d62972d0a4/76909021.png?X-Amz-Algorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-Amz-Content-Sha256=UNSIGNED-PAYLOAD&X-Amz-Credential=AKIA4EOUDTOVUICLPZ4P%2F20260909%2Fus-east-1%2Fs3%2Faws4_request&X-Amz-Date=20260909T120000Z&X-Amz-Expires=86400&X-Amz-Signature=bb9980ac57b5009db102fe5716a462e40a9e63e7c15623a4a5b80cf27e86478d&X-Amz-SignedHeaders=host&x-amz-checksum-mode=ENABLED&x-id=GetObject " =627x570")

3. If any tags are not valid, the warning “The following labels are invalid” is displayed above the template.

   (For example, if I use the C_SCORE label in the "Introduction" part and click "Validate," the system immediately informs me that it is invalid, as the C_SCORE label is only valid in case and section items.)
4. When your work has been validated, click **Save** to save the template.
