# Evaluating Case Performance

# Case Total Score

From the scores achieved for each section, i.e., from [**Section scores**](/doc/evaluating-section-performance-VkJMNBKQJC), and the weights set in the [**Case Manager**](/doc/case-manager-QdAIr4bLwJ) (according to the importance of each section within a Case), the system generates a score for each Case: the **Case Total Score**.

It is the **sum of the products of each section score** within one particular Case and the **corresponding section weight**, divided by the **sum of section weights** for the sections of one particular Case.
It is always given as a percentage.

:::

**ss** = section score of a learner for each section of one particular Case
**ws** = section weight belonging to each section within the Case, defined in the Case Manager
**n** = number of sections in the Case

*__Example:__*

A Case contains an *OS (Overall Satisfaction) section with a weight of 100 and a History section with a weight of 200* (no other sections are included).
A learner's *OS* section score is 67 %, and his *History* section score is 85%.

In this case, the Case Total Score is: (100 \* 67 + 200 \* 85) / (100 + 200) = 79 %

:::warning
The Case Total Score is calculated from the **Case sections, with** a **maximum score above zero**.

# Class Case Average

**Case results** can be calculated for a particular learner and **for the whole class**. From the **achieved Case Total Scores** for each learner group, the system calculates an **average score** for each Case: the **Class Case Average**.

:::

**cl** = Case Total Score of each learner of the learner group of an Activity for one particular Case
**n** = number of learners of the learner group of the activity who have a record for the Case

### Class Case Averages are visible

* in the [**Score Distribution Report**](/doc/score-distribution-2VT0FKUxXR) referring to a single Case, at the bottom of the **Score Distribution** page
* in the Class Average line of the [**Group Performance Review**](/doc/group-performance-review-o7652SkdiU) report referring to an entire Activity
* in the ***Weighted Average*** line, in the Class Average column of each table of the [**Grade Report**](/doc/grade-report-OV1DGlpr7H)
